FIRST Mid-Atlantic is proud to support three hands-on robotics programs that inspire students to explore science, technology, engineering, and math (STEM) through exciting, team-based challenges. Each program is designed for a different age group, providing a pathway for students to develop technical skills, build confidence, and discover a passion for innovation.

FIRST LEGO League
Designed for students in grades PreK–8, FIRST LEGO League introduces young innovators to STEM through engaging, hands-on learning. Teams use LEGO® technology to explore real-world challenges, develop creative solutions, and build foundational engineering, programming, and teamwork skills in a fun, supportive environment.
Best for: PreK–8 students learning STEM through exploration and play.
FIRST Tech Challenge
Created for students in grades 7–12, FIRST Tech Challenge challenges teams to design, build, and program a robot to compete in an exciting annual game. Participants develop engineering, coding, CAD, and project management skills while collaborating with teammates and mentors.
Best for: Middle and high school students ready to design, build, and compete with robots.
FIRST Robotics Competition
Known as the “varsity sport for the mind,” FIRST Robotics Competition brings together high school students, mentors, and industry professionals to design, build, and program industrial-sized robots in an intense six-week build season. Teams compete at regional and district events while gaining invaluable technical, leadership, and professional experience.
Best for: High school students seeking a challenging engineering experience with real-world impact.
